Local councillors praises flood defence work in Hilsea

Hilsea councillors Scott Harris, Donna Jones and Frank Jonas are delighted at the excellent progress being made on the Tipner Lake flood defence project.

Councillor Scott Harris said "This project has made some positive progress in such an early stage. The Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership has worked well to keep residents informed locally and ensure that all disruption is kept to a minimum. I saw the work that they did on the Anchorage Park and Milton scheme and was impressed at how they were sensitive to the respective areas."

As we move into the summer season, extended working hours will be used to make use of the favourable low tides. Councillor Harris added, "These working hours will be between 7am – 11pm. I have been assured all work will be heavily supervised, to create the least impact on local people."

Councillor Donna Jones, Leader of the City Council also welcomed the works; "It's great to see Portsmouth and the local area both getting a facelift, completely renovating this area, but also keeping homes in this area protected from flooding."

Former Lord Mayor, Frank Jonas also added his praise to the project; "I've lived here a long time and look forward to seeing this scheme when it's completed. Families, cyclists and visitors to this area are going to love it."

Regular updates will be available on information boards around the site and online at www.escp.org.uk throughout construction.
