Today saw the official opening of Portsmouth College’s latest improvements to facilities, as renovations to the art atrium and the newly built outdoor canopy were officially launched, with special guests and friends of the College attending the celebration.
After countless hours of work, improvements to the art atrium allows students a renewed and professional space to work, the opportunity to use an industry standard photography studio and darkroom as well as the use of Apple Mac suites for Architecture, Graphic Design and Digital Film courses.
Offering students a sheltered space right outside the main student centre, the canopy allows a large amount of extra social space for our growing number of students, which can be used throughout the year and can seat up to 100 students. Together with the summer refurbishments to our hot food area and the creation of a brand new ‘Costa Coffee’ cafe, students will have first class facilities in our social spaces from this September.
Accompanied with canapes and a glass of fizz, staff, friends and governors were invited to celebrate this official opening as plaques were unveiled commemorating the completed improvements by none other than both Penny Mordaunt, MP for Portsmouth North and Stephen Morgan, MP for Portsmouth South.

There are so many more opportunities emerging for young people in the City to be inspired, be ambitious and be creative. Art facilities such as these are a game changer and provide high quality education for a culture of talented people.”
