Councillor Hannah Hockaday, and community activist Jim Fleming launch ‘STAY SAFE AND WARM HELP DAY’ (December 5th 2015).
Following on from the success of Councillor Hannah Hockaday’s 2014 winter help and advice packs, she has created an updated 2015 help and advice pack aimed at pensioners and vulnerable residents to help keep their energy bills down so that they can stay warm this Winter.
Councillor Hannah Hockaday said, "I have been meeting with a lot of residents across the area and a constant feedback is that residents are worried about heating bills, especially during the winter time. My professional background is in providing energy advice and help to the vulnerable and helping them keep their bills as low as possible. A lot of people on very low incomes will have to make a decision of either staying warm or being able to eat. Too often, these residents are not aware of grants and help that is available to them. The support I’ve received from our MP on this project has been very welcome and Penny Mordaunt has also helped me, along with others to bring this project to residents.”
Community activist Jim Fleming continued, “I remember Hannah launching this project last winter and was delighted when she asked me to work with her on this year's campaign. We'll be able to provide help and advice packs directly to residents as well as to local shoppers visiting Cosham high street at our Information Stand on Saturday December 5th."
Council Leader and Hilsea Ward Councillor Donna Jones said, "We want to raise awareness for the elderly and low income families. Domestic energy prices are high, but too often residents who need help, aren’t aware of what help is available to them. This is an issue that affects at least one person that we’ll all know and we owe it to them to do our small bit to help. Please come down to one of our STAY SAFE AND WARM HELP stalls in Cosham High Street, North End High Street, Paulsgrove Shops and Baffins Library."
